Attacks on DU students on July 15 : Hasina including 391 Chhatra League men sued

A case has been filed against 391 named and some 800 to 1,000 unnamed Chhatra League leaders and activists in connection with the attacks on student on Dhaka university campus on July 15.

The case also implicates prominent figures, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

Md Abu Sayed Bin Mahin Sarker, a coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Platform, filed the case with Shahbagh police station on Monday.

Also included in the FIR are former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and former minister of state for information and broadcasting Mohammad A Arafat.

The central and Dhaka University wings of Chhatra League's president and general secretary have also been accused.

The FIR includes more than 20 female accused who hold various positions within the Chhatra League.

The charges primarily involve attempted murder, molestation of woman and vandalism, according to sources at Shahbagh police station.

The Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement held a press conference at Shahbag police station on Monday to brief the media on the case.

Mahin Sarker stated that the case was lodged out of obligation to ensure the safety of Dhaka University students. He urged other victims to come forward and file their own complaints against the perpetrators.

Abdul Kader, speaking at the press conference, criticized the Chhatra League for allegedly serving the government’s agenda against student interests.

"We demand that this terrorist organization disguised as Chhatra League must not be allowed to continue operating in the country," he stated.

“We shall outline the key issues in Bangladeshi politics, including the banning of the Chhatra League, the resignation of the president, the cancellation of the fascist constitution of 1972, and the creation of a new constitution,” he added.

From the students' perspective, they are advocating for a ban on Chhatra League and, more generally, on organizations affiliated with the Awami League.

"We want to ensure that no fascist influences persist on campus," Masud asserted.

Rayhan, a witness and victim from Dhaka University’s Salimullah Muslim Hall, was present at the press conference.
