A mobile court of the district administration in a raid has found a stock of approximately 100 tons of packed dates in a cold storage located in Riazuddin Bazar of Chittagong city.
The raid was conducted on Wednesday afternoon.
Executive Magistrate Prateek Dutta led the raid.
The magistrate said that based on information that several importers and wholesalers have stocked these dates since August and September of the last year, they raided there.
He also said that the stored dates have been ordered to be released in the market within the next seven days.
Otherwise, all these dates will be seized and sold at auction.
After that, raids were conducted at Falmondi, the largest fruit market in Chittagong.
Safa-Marwa Dry Fruits was fined Tk5,000 and Arooba Enterprise was fined Tk10,000 for not having a price list and not keeping purchase and sale receipts.
Later, a shop named Ali General Store was fined Tk30,000 for selling dates at Tk4,150 (Three kg packet) buying at Tk2,850.
Agricultural Marketing Officer Morshed Quader and a team of Kotwali police station provided full support in the raids.
