State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat said that the countrymen have rejected those including the BNP, who asked the people to boycott the 12th national parliament election.
He said: “This election was to reject those who carried out terrorist activities and called the country's people to boycott the election.”
He said these things on Monday while speaking at a mass reception organized by the Jubo League ward-18 unit on Kalachandpur Government High School and College grounds in the capital.
Referring to the BNP, the state minister said: “Despite their arson attacks and sabotage activities, people had cast their vote in a festive mood. And the voter turnout is more than 42%.”
“A befitting reply has been given to the conspirators both at home and abroad through the election,” he said.
He urged all to remain alert against those who destroy peace by hurling petrol bombs and killing people alive.
Arafat said the nation is progressing indomitably and peace has been prevailing across the country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“In the last 15 years, if it had not been a strong leader like Sheikh Hasina, we would have suffered in any incident. But the prime minister was there for us, to maintain the peace,” he added.
The state minister said everyone should remain united to strengthen the hand of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resist the arson terrorists.
Arafat extended thanks to the people including voters of his constituency for electing him as a lawmaker.
