Ashraful Islam Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom has urged the Election Commission to scrap the results of Dhaka-17 by-polls, alleging fraud and irregularities.
He has also criticized Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq's statement regarding why police failed to provide security to him.
Hero Alom made the comments while talking to reporters after submitting an application to Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal in Dhaka's Agargaon on Sunday.
"What Commissioner Faruq sir has said is very unfortunate, and shameful. If he was ashamed, he would not have said that. He said I went to the same centre twice. I am asking you to look at the video footage to see if I have been to the centre twice. I only went there once,” Hero Alom said.
He added that it was the police's duty to take him home from inside the centre with dignity.
Earlier, DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq said police could not provide security to Hero Alom as he went to the same centre twice without informing the police.
He said: "Hero Alom and his followers were forcibly removed from the center due to issues within the premises. Hero Alom faced an attack by miscreants outside the centre. The culprits are being identified through the CCTV footage."
In the application sent to the Election Commission, Hero Alom alleged that fake votes were cast during the polls. He also claimed that the government's men attacked him that day.
