The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 has recommended relaxing the hygiene rules as the virus count has been under control in Bangladesh for some time.
The NTAC has suggested lifting the social distancing rules, mask wearing and other measures to prevent Covid-19.
The suggestions were made in the 63rd meeting held under the chairmanship of Professor Dr Mohammad Sahidullah, president of the committee, on Saturday.
However, the committee suggested that masks should be used as a precaution in high-risk areas such as hospitals or medical centres and high-risk individuals with compromised immune systems.
The committee believes that it will help prevent other health problems besides Covid-19.
In the meeting, the latest situation of Covid-19 and the latest advice of the World Health Organization were discussed in detail. It was informed in the meeting that although some countries still have a high number of Covid-19 cases, mortality rates, ICU requirements and complications are very low.
In the meeting, although the situation of Covid-19 is not considered urgent as per the advice of the World Health Organization, it is suggested to IEDCR to review the global report and strengthen the surveillance in the country to monitor the infection situation. The meeting also recommended that all preparations be made to take quick action if the infection increases in the future.
Besides, the meeting advised the pilgrims to comply with the conditions of entry into Saudi Arabia. It is also advised to avoid contact with camels to prevent Mers. In case of travelling to other countries, arrangements should be made according to the conditions of that country.
The committee also believes that there is no need for mandatory Covid-19 test and production of Covid vaccine certificates for passengers coming from abroad.
It is also recommended that decisions on the Covid vaccine be subject to regular scientific data analysis.
