Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) has demanded the repeal of the Digital Security Act and an end to illegal detention and harassment, condemning Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman being sued under the DSA and its journalist Samsuzzaman Shams being detained.
The leading legal services organization in a statement issued to the media on Thursday expressed deep concern about the incidents and described them as a violation of the law and the High Court's directives on detentions and interrogations.
BLAST also strongly insisted on the implementation of the High Court's directives on arrests and remands.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) picked up Samsuzzaman Shams from his residence in the Ambagan area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University, around 4:30am on Wednesday.
Two cases under the Digital Security Act have been filed against him so far.
Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman, an unnamed assistant cameraman and unnamed others were also sued in one of those cases.
