Mourning her son's sudden detention at night, Karimon Nesa, mother of Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, asked why he was taken by law enforcement in such a way.
At around 4am on Wednesday, a group of about 15 people in plain clothes identifying themselves as members of the police Criminal Investigation Department detained Shams, a Prothom Alo correspondent, from his home in the town of Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city of Dhaka.
Shamsuzzaman's mother Karimon Nesa was at their home in Katigram of Manikganj Sadar. She received news of her son's capture after 10am. Since then her lamentation continued, reports Prothom Alo.
Regarding Sham's detention, she said: “Is my son thief or robber and what case is against him? All I want is my son to return.”
The police had later registered a case against the journalist Samsuzzaman Shams, who was picked up from his Savar home for interrogation, under the Digital Security Act.
Jubo League leader Golam Kibria filed the case at Tejgaon police station in the early hours of Wednesday.
Tejgaon Police Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam confirmed the case.
