TMSS official fined over road construction on river

A mobile court has fined an official of Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS) for constructing a road on the river Karatoya.

Senior Assistant Director of Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha Najibur Rahman was fined Tk10,00,000 for occupying a portion of the river in Naodapara area of Bogra on Monday.

In case of a failure to pay the fine, the accused will have to serve three months in jail.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Firoza Parvin led the mobile court and said that the accused did not stop encroaching on the river despite signing a bond to do so earlier.

The mobile court raided the spot on Saturday. At that time TMSS officials told the court that they will suspend their construction until the ownership of the land is ascertained by all parties. But a day later, they were still continuing the construction of a road inside TMSS Eco Park by encroaching on a portion of the river.

Earlier on Saturday, TMSS Executive Director Prof Dr Hosne Ara Begum claimed the ownership of the land in front of the mobile court.

She told Dhaka Tribune that it is not the TMSS that has built the road on the river but the local people who have done it.
