A union parishad member was allegedly hacked to death by the opposing party in Daulatpur of Kushtia.
The deceased, Kajal Hossain, 42, UP member of Ward No 7 of Daulatpur Sadar union and a leader of the union Jubo League, died at Kushtia General Hospital around 5am on Thursday.
Earlier, around 6pm on Wednesday, Kajal was stabbed on the back and neck with a sharp knife at Sardarpara intersection near his house.
Arifa Khatun, the wife of the deceased's younger brother, said that Kajol was in a terrible condition since the incident.
Mohabbat Hossain, the neighbour of the deceased, said that Kajol had a dispute with the people of Sardarpara over spreading influence in the area. Due to this, they have committed the murder. “We want severe punishment for those involved in this murder,” he added.
Daulatpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibur Rahman said that the police station has not yet registered a case in connection with the murder, but the police have started an investigation. The body of the deceased has been kept at Kushtia General Hospital for post-mortem.
