Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has requested Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to bring the criminals who committed offences in the name of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
“Awami League cannot be discredited by a few criminals. The development of the government is at risk,” he said at the peace rally organized in front of the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Saturday.
The road transport and bridges minister said whatever crimes have been committed recently, were committed by criminals and they have misused the name of Chhatra League.
“They have no rights to remain in the organization. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not spare them,” the minister added.
Quader later reminded the people present at the rally that the criminals behind Biswajit's murder, and Buet's Abrar murder were all brought to justice, and their Chhatra League identity did not protect them.
“I am requesting the home minister to bring them to book. Just suspending them from the party will not work,” he added.
Recently, several Chhatra league men all over the country have been accused of ragging, extortion, and other crimes.
On Friday, the High Court directed Islamic University (IU) Chhatra League Vice President Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora and her associate Tabassum to leave the university hall over the torture of a first-year student at the university, in the name of ragging.
Additionally, two leaders of Dhaka University Chhatra League were handed over to police in front of the Kali Mondir on Thursday evening while in the act of extorting money from a group of visitors, who came to the book fair from Chandpur.
Apart from that, there have been many reports of the DU unit of the ruling party's student body members being involved in criminality, mainly snatching, extortion and drug peddling, over the past 12 years.
