Covid vaccination for children begins at district, upazila levels

The health authorities have launched the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for children aged 5-11 at district and upzila levels across country.

The inoculation program started at 9pm on Tuesday. The nationwide campaign will continue for the next 12 days. 

A specially formulated Pfizer vaccine for children between the ages of five and 11 is being administered.

The government has set a target to vaccinate 21.5 million children across the country.

On August 11, Bangladesh started administering Covid-19 jabs to children aged between 5 and 11 years on an experimental basis.  

The trial run was conducted in 186 centres of 12 city corporations, including the capital, in Bangladesh.

A total of 1,502,400 doses of the first batch of Pfizer vaccine for children arrived in Dhaka on July 30.

Health Minister Dr Zahid Maleque said that the parents have to register on the Surokkha app to get their children vaccinated.
