Two private hospitals in Maniganj’s Singair Upazila were fined Tk50,000 by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection for storing meat and fish in a fridge dedicated to medicines.
During a raid, Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Rumel also found expired reagents, pregnancy test kits, and medicines in the refrigerator along with the raw fish and meat on Monday.
The two clinics - Sahrail Clinic and Diagnostic Centre was fined Tk35,000 and Ibrahim Memorial Hospital was fined Tk15,000 during the raid.
The raid was instructed by Manikganj District Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif.
In addition, he had ordered the fertilizer traders in Singair not to sell fertilizers at excessive prices and to save purchase and sales receipts.
Previously, the Comilla Civil Surgeon’s Office shut down a hospital for preserving beef in a fridge used in the operating theatre.
Officials also did not find any nurse or doctor attending surgery patients at the hospital during a raid on Saturday.
