Members of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Sunday arrested a man from Manikganj district town for his alleged involvement in connection with recovery of dismembered body of a young garment worker in Kaliganj of Gazipur.
The arrestee is Shahinur, 32, son of Moslem Uddin. He is also a worker of a ready-made garment, Hafizur Rahman, inspector of Gazipur PBI, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Police recovered seven pieces of the dismembered body of Sabuj Bernard Ghoshal, 31 on Saturday.
The pieces of the body were left scattered over an area of about one kilometer in Panjora village of Kaliganj's Nagari union.
Following the incident, Shahinur went into hiding.
The PBI later tracked down Shahinur in Manikganj using modern technology and arrested him.
Police also seized Sabuj’s mobile phone from his procession.
They also recovered another part of the deceased from the kitchen of Shahinur’s rented house and a sharp weapon used in murder, said the PBI SI.
The PBI officer also said that Shahinur and Sabuj were friends.
Victim’s father, Amullo Ghosal, said that Sabuj went out from his house in the morning of Wednesday to go to his work but did not return home.
The family members could not trace him after a frantic search. After going to his garment the following day, they came to know that Sabuj left the garment at 4:06pm on Wednesday.
After failing to find him, Sabuj’s father filed a general diary with Kaliganj Police Station on Thursday.
Chhanwar Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Gazipur, said acting on a tip-off, the police went to the spot at 11:30am on Saturday and recovered the first part of the body from the waist to the knee, two severed hands without fingers and a pair of jeans.
Later, police recovered the head, severed from the waist to the neck and two pieces of one leg cut off from different places.
On information of body recovery, his family members came to the spot and identified the body as Sabuj.
His father filed a murder case on Sunday.
