Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country continue to subside with infections dropping by 67% and deaths by 62% in the last one-month period.
Bangladesh recorded 6,486 cases and 34 deaths in a week from July 11, while it came down to 5,435 cases and 32 deaths in a week starting from July 18.
The country recorded 3,482 cases and 25 deaths in the seven days from July 25.
In 24 hours till Tuesday morning, Bangladesh reported three Covid-19 deaths and 296 cases.
In the first seven days of August, a total of 2,078 cases and 13 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh, according to data compiled by the Directorate General of Health Services.
Covid cases started to jump in Bangladesh at the beginning of June due to two heavily infectious Omicron sub-variants, BA.4 and BA.5, with most Bangladeshis being infected with the BA.5 sub-variant of Omicron.
The drop in infections now comes as a relief, with experts saying that they are not expecting any major wave in the near future.
Bangladesh has so far recorded five Covid waves, with the last one continuing for a smaller period than others. Experts attributed the higher number of people being vaccinated as a major reason behind the fewer casualties in this wave.
The country began administering booster doses across the country on December 28 last year.
Data from the DGHS show that 129 million people have received the first dose and 120 million people got the second dose. So far, 40 million people have received booster doses.
Bangladesh plans to start a trial run for the Covid vaccine for children aged 5-11 on Thursday. Full-scale vaccinations will begin on August 26.
