SGFL: Gas production to go up by 300 million cubic feet by 2025

The Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) plans to extract 300 million cubic feet of gas and 1,500 barrels of condensed gas per day by 2025, says Managing Director Md Mizanur Rahman.

“In addition to the workover of 10-12 suspended (abandoned) wells, 10-12 new wells will be dug. From this, 200 to 220 million cubic feet of gas will be extracted every day," he said on Tuesday.

He said that the production of SGFL, which started in the 1960’s, had at one time increased to 200 million cubic feet per day.

“Due to the reduction of gas reserves in the old wells, the extraction of gas under this gas field has come down to 85 million cubic feet per day,” he observed.

At present, 16 million cubic feet of gas is extracted daily from the newly launched Kailashtila Gas Well no 6.

In total, the company currently produces 96 million cubic feet of gas and 600 barrels of condensed gas.

According to the government's decision, they have decided to increase the extraction of gas. “This will reduce the pressure on LNG,” Mizanur said.

Meanwhile, a participatory meeting was organized by SGFL at an auditorium in Sylhet in the morning.

The meeting was organized as part of the implementation of the National Integrity Strategy, Annual Performance Agreement, Service Delivery Commitment and Grievance Redressal Management.

Mizanur Rahman presided over the function while Director of Petrobangla Md Altaf Hossain spoke as the chief guest.

Speakers at the event said that energy is the main driving force of the country's development.

They added that the main objective of the meeting is to ensure the development of the company by ensuring transparency and accountability.
