Three days before the Eid-ul-Azha, 1,20,350 vehicles crossed Bangabandhu Bridge and a toll of over Tk9.18 crore has been collected from these vehicles.
In general days 13,000-14,000 vehicles cross the bridge. Comparatively several times more vehicles have crossed the bridge during those three days.
The highest toll of Tk3.34 crore has been collected from 12:00am on Wednesday to 12:00am on Thursday after movement over the bridge began.
Last Eid, on April 29, the highest toll of Tk3.19 crore was collected.
According to the bridge authorities, the traffic pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway has been on the rise since Wednesday night.
From 12:00am on Wednesday to 12:00am on Thursday, 43,595 vehicles crossed the bridge. Of them, 25,113 were north-bound vehicles while Dhaka-bound vehicles were 18,482.
From 12:00am on Thursday to 12:00am on Friday, 41,817 vehicles crossed, of which 29,072 vehicles headed towards the north and 12,878 headed towards the capital amassing a toll of Tk3.9 crore.
Last Friday, from 12:00am to 12:00am on Saturday, the day before Eid, 34,938 vehicles crossed the bridge. As many as 24,435 vehicles drove north and 10,503 went towards Dhaka, amassing a toll of Tk2.75 crore.
According to the toll plaza source of the bridge, the traffic pressure started declining since Saturday night.
On Sunday, Eid day, the number of vehicles crossing was much less than usual.
In this regard, Ahsan Masud Bappi, executive engineer of Bangabandhu Bridge site office said that toll has been collected from 11 booths on the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge and nine lane booths on the west bank.
A larger number of vehicles crossed on Eid day compared to previous Eid days.
The authorities have been collecting tolls since the bridge was inaugurated in 1997.
The commuter system network (CNS) is currently collecting the toll of the bridge.
