PM Hasina to students: Acquire time befitting skills

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the youth to acquire time befitting skills to tap the opportunities that will be brought on by the fourth industrial revolution home and abroad.

She made the remarks while publishing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent test results on Sunday.

“The world is moving forward. We are at the threshold of the fourth industrial revolution,” she said.

She added that if students are given the right skills they can capitalize on the job opportunities made open by the fourth industrial revolution.

The premier said that instead of traditional degrees it is now time to train the youth with the proper skill set.

A total of 95.26% of candidates obtained passing grades in this year's public exams for twelfth graders that were delayed by nearly eight months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government held the exams in December last year with a shortened syllabus.

Speaking about the current Covid-19 situation in the country, PM Hasina said that if the situation improves, educational institutions are likely to be reopened at the end of this month.

On Friday, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni reiterated that educational institutions might be reopened after February 21.

The Cabinet Division closed down educational institutions from January 21 to February 6 after the Covid-19 infections surged across the country.

The government later extended the closure for two more weeks according to the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 advice.
