Bangladesh recorded 3,956 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning, with the infection rate jumping to 16.62%
The last time the country recorded more cases on a single day was on April 22, when 4,014 people tested positive.
The new cases took the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 837,247. As many as 23,967 samples, including pending ones, were tested at 513 authorized labs across the country.
To date, 6,242,786 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall test positivity rate of 13.41%.
Another 60 people died from Covid-19 on Wednesday, taking the overall death toll to 13,282.
This is highest single-day death toll in 43 days. On May 4, at least 61 people died from Covid-19.
On the other hand, another 2,679 patients recovered from the infectious disease on the day.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country through a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

Of the 60 deceased – 36 men and 24 women – 17 were from Rajshahi division, 14 from Khulna, eight each from Dhaka and Chittagong, six from Sylhet, four from Rangpur, and three from Mymensingh division.
Among them, 46 patients died at government hospitals, nine at private hospitals, and five at home.
Most of the deceased (23) were aged over 60, while 16 were aged between 51 and 60, 10 aged between 41 and 50, seven aged between 31 and 40, one between 21 and 30 , and three between 11 and 20.
So far, 9,543 men (71.85%) and 3,739 women (28.15%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the arrival of the pandemic in March last year, a total 7,321 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,546 in Chittagong, 824 in Rajshahi, 903 in Khulna, 396 in Barisal, 494 in Sylhet, 521 in Rangpur, and 277 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.59%.
Meanwhile, 773,752 patients — 92.42% of all infected — have recovered from Covid-19 across the country.
Currently, 27,117 people are in isolation and 48,865 are quarantined.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus had claimed 3,839,931 lives and infected 177,470,620 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 161,919,653 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 219 countries and territories across the planet.
