Bangladesh has registered 56 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours until Sunday morning, taking the total number of fatalities to 11,934.
The country's total number of cases also climbed to 773,513, with 1,386 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Sunday afternoon.
Of the 56 deceased – 38 men and 18 women – 22 were from Dhaka division, 21 from Chittagong, four from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two each from Barisal and Rangpur, and one each from Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.
Of them, 36 people died in the state-run hospitals, 15 in private hospitals, and five at home.

So far, 8,653 men (72.51%) and 3,281 women (27.49%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since March last year, 6,922 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,209 in Chittagong, 623 in Rajshahi, 725 in Khulna, 362 in Barisal, 412 in Sylhet, 434 in Rangpur, and 247 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.54%.
The DGHS said 16,775 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients between Saturday and Sunday mornings.
As many as 16,915 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 454 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 1,386 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 8.19%.
To date, 5,630,894 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 13.74% so far.

The health authorities said 3,329 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 710,162 patients – 91.81% – have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2. The country also recorded its first fatality on March 18.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,298,200 lives and infected 158,371,115 people across the world till Sunday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 135,871,512 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
