Bangladesh on Wednesday administered the Covid-19 vaccine to another 226,755 people. But the figure is a little lower than that recorded the previous day. Of the latest recipients, as many as 145,203 were men and 81,552 were women.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), no fewer than 226,902 people received vaccines on Tuesday.
However, the number of people suffering from some common adverse issues on Wednesday dropped to 20, in contrast to 35 a day earlier.
The latest shots pushed up the number of vaccinated people to 1,586,368 since January 27. So far, some 510 people have faced adverse reactions after taking the vaccine.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that the country had adequate doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and there would be no shortage in the future, reports UNB.
Speaking at a foundation laying program in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, he said Bangladesh was way ahead in the vaccination campaign as most countries were yet to get their doses.
Around 2.5 million people have registered for receiving the jab, the minister said. Bangladesh currently has seven million (70 lakh) doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the government is providing them for free.
The minister said that in line with the World Health Organization’s directive, the second shot would have to be taken 8 weeks after the first one.
After the first shot, three months was the time limit for receiving the second one, Minister Maleque said, noting that the vaccine was more effective when one waited longer to receive the second jab.
He said text messages were being sent to people according to a particular centre’s capacity to inoculate within a day.
“There’s nothing to be worried about as the country has no shortage of doses,” he said, adding, “there won’t be any in the future.’
