Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said that wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distancing are the best ways to stop further spread of Covid-19 until vaccines become.
The minister said this while speaking as chief guest in a function held at the Manikganj Diabetes Hospital on the occasion of World Diabetes Day Saturday evening.
During his address, the minister declared that the people of Manikganj from now will have the opportunity to get tested for Covid-19 in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) lab set up here.
The health minister said about 50 million people in the world were infected with Covid-19 and 1.3 million already died and comparatively the prevalence rate of the Covid-19 infection in Bangladesh is less than the many other countries as effective measures have been taken to stop its transmission.
The function was addressed among others by Superintendent of Police Rifat Rahman Shamim, Deputy Director of Local Government, Fouzia Khan, Civil Surgeon Dr Anwarul Amin Akando, General Secretary, Manikganj Diabetes Society, AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, and Senior Vice President of District Chamber of Commerce and Industry Afsar Uddin Sarkar.
Earlier in the day Health Minister Maleque formally inaugurated the newly set up PCR lab in the district’s Colonel Malek Medical College Hospital.
