Bangladesh has registered 32 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Monday morning, taking the number of total fatalities to 5,193.
The country also logged more than 360,000 coronavirus cases with 1,407 people having tested positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 360,555.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Monday afternoon.
Of the 32 deceased, including 22 men, 25 were from Dhaka division, three each from Chittagong and Rajshahi, and one from Mymensingh division.
Of the victims, 30 died at different hospitals and two at their homes.
So far, 4,018 men (77.37%) and 1,175 women (22.63%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.44%.
The DGHS said 11,284 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 11,922 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 106 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 1,407 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 11.80%.
To date, 1,921,382 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 18.77% so far.
The health authorities said 1,582 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 272,073 patients — 75.46% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,002,702 lives and infected 33,330,355 people across the world till Monday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 24,649,336 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
