MCCI, CSE, BUILD mourn Niloufer Manzur's death

Business bodies and a stock exchange in Bangladesh have expressed condolences at the death of Niloufer Manzur, renowned educationist and founding principal of Sunbeams School, due to Covid-19.

In a message, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Dhaka said the country had lost not just one of its legendary educationists, but a great human being, a dedicated and caring individual who never gave up on others.

“While her legacy will be carried forward by her legion of students whom she taught to serve humanity with equal dedication and humility, her loss will be felt deeply by all whose lives she touched,” the message says.

Meanwhile, the chairman, board of directors, management, members and all stakeholders of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) expressed their profound sorrow at Niloufer’s death.

Their message says Niloufer was a pioneering nation builder and founder of one of the finest English medium schools in the country.

She taught morality, values and patriotism to thousands of her students, along with top class education, the message further adds. 

The Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD), in their statement, said the think tank was deeply saddened by Niloufer’s death.

"May her educational legacy as the founder and principal of Sunbeams School last forever, while her soul rests in peace. All of us at BUILD mourn the sad demise of one of Bangladesh`s greatest women and we will be missing her dearly," it said.

Niloufer Manzur, who founded Sunbeams School in 1974, passed away on Tuesday from Covid-19, at the age of 74. 

She was also the wife of Syed Manzur Elahi, chairman of conglomerate Apex Group.

Earlier on Sunday, Syed Manzur Elahi and Niloufer Manzur both tested positive for Covid-19.
