Grameen Telecom giving away one million free masks to underprivileged

Grameen Telecom is giving away 1 million cloth masks free of cost to underprivileged people and those who cannot afford to buy any masks.

72,000 masks have already been distributed through various organizations, according to a press release.

The use of cloth masks, especially those made of knit fabric, can significantly reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission, various international studies and bulletins from the Department of Health have said.

An infected person may spread the virus by sneezing, coughing, and even by talking to others, according to research. Two-layer masks made of knit fabric can prevent the corona virus from spreading.

If everyone uses a mask, coronavirus transmission may be greatly reduced, the press release added.

The non-medical masks provided by Grameen Telecom are being produced at  production facilities of Grameen Fabrics and Fashions Ltd. So far, 205,000 masks have been produced and another 205,000 are scheduled to be produced every week.

Individuals and organizations interested in acquiring masks for distribution at their own initiative can reach out by email to info@grameentelecom.net.bd.
