A total of 71 Maldivian nationals have been returned to their country using an aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force.
The flight left Dhaka for Maldives on Monday, according to an Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) press release.
ISPR said that the mission was organized by a 15 member aircrew from the Air Force, led by captain Enamul Haque.
The Air Force was assisted by the Bangladesh Army in transporting the Maldivian nationals from various districts to Dhaka, they added.
A 10-member medical team also took the flight to Maldives in order to provide coronavirus-related medical care to Bangladeshi nationals residing in the country.
Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Admin) Air Vice Marshal M Abul Bashar and Maldives Ambassador to Bangladesh Md. Aishath Shaan Shakir were present during departure.
Those involved in organizing the mission will hope that the friendly act will serve to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The Maldivian nationals were stranded in Bangladesh due to the lockdowns put in place to combat the coronavirus epidemic, which has so far infected 2,948 people and killed 101 people in Bangladesh.
Globally, the virus has infected 2,415,384 people and killed 165,195 people.
