Coronavirus: 70% infected in Bangladesh aged 21 to 50 years

No matter whether you are young or elderly, age does not necessarily matter when it comes to Covid-19 infections.

When elderly remains at most risk of dying, but all age groups remain as vulnerable for infections.

Three in every four of the Covid-19 positive cases found in Bangladesh are aged between 21 to 50 years, data compiled by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) shows.

Out of the total 61 cases found positive so far in Bangladesh, 16 patients fall under the age group of 41-50 years followed by 15 others aged between 31 and 40, and 12 between 21 and 30 years.

Only 11 patients have been found aged over 60 years while it is four cases for people aged 51 to 60 years. 

Two minors aged less than 10 years got infected with the virus in Bangladesh while only one patient aged 11 to 20 years, the data shows.

However, when it comes to gender, male proportion are most likely to get infected as out of the total cases, 38 were male and 23 were female, according to the data compiled on positive cases.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), people of all ages can be infected by Covid-19, but older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.

As of Friday, Bangladesh has so far recorded six deaths from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed 53,203 lives and infected 1,015,728 people across the world till 9:30am on Friday, according to Worldometer.

As many as 212,991 people have recovered from the virus which has spread to 204 countries and territories across the planet.
