Top Health Ministry officials suggested home quarantine as colleague found infected

Top officials of the Health Ministry have been suggested home-quarantine after an employee of Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque’s office has tested positive with Covid-19.

Sources at the ministry and the Directorate General of Health Services confirmed the matter, stating that the employee is among the five new Covid-19 patients who were reported on Thursday, according to media reports.

However, the identity of the infected in question could not be ascertained immediately.

Earlier in the day, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed the latest five coronavirus positive cases, taking the number of affected to 44, with five deaths.

Of the 44 infected, 11 have recovered completely leaving 33 active cases.

IEDCR Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said they could not disclose the identity of the patient on ethical grounds.

According to the IEDCR, community transmission of Covid-19 is taking place on a limited scale – a critical issue it denied for a long period and finally admitted on Wednesday.
