Jaago Foundation organized a program that facilitated dialogues, activities and group discussions among young people with the aim of helping young people to reach their full potential.
The seminar “The Future We Want - Promoting Youth in Civic Engagement, Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship” took place at Crystal Ball Room, Hotel Agrabad in Chittagong on Friday.
The program was organized in collaboration with International Labor Organization (ILO) and Unicef with the theme of Generation Unlimited.
The purpose of this workshop was to help young people acquire knowledge, skills and establish networks to build youth as leaders for the future.
Previously this dialogue was held in Sylhet on December 20.
Around 75 youth from diverse backgrounds participated in the seminar. The participants of this dialogue were students enrolled in vocational training, youth engaged in informal employment, school dropouts, university students, and youth entrepreneurs.
In the morning, the dialogue started with ice-breaking, objective sharing and some games. The idea of the game is to teach participants that it is easier to achieve goals if given proper environment. Everyone has dreams but few can achieve that desired destination due to lack of proper support. Besides, skill and education are the tools that can help someone achieve their required target.
ILO official Khadija Khondker talked about ILO’s 100 years of contribution in the world by working on promoting social justice.
Khadija has also shared the goal and target of Unicef and ILO’s global partnership on Generation Unlimited, which intends to enable the largest generation of 1.8 billion young people to become productive and engaged members of society.
Sourav Saha, senior program officer from Jaago Foundation took a session on basic life skills – Art of Presentation. In this session, he discussed three basic communication tools, reading, writing and speaking. Besides, he also taught the participants about brainstorming and mind map for preparing instant presentation.
Tony Michael Gomes facilitated the session "What Youth Want" where he shared some information regarding opportunities for the Bangladeshi youth. Then he discussed the statistics of top reasons for unemployment in Bangladesh and major challenges that youths face while applying for jobs.
The program ended in a group work with the participants having to answer a questionnaire about topics such as employment, entrepreneurships and job markets, to name a few.
This dialogue also featured relevant stakeholders as observers, including Associate Professor and Departmental Head of Human Resource Management (HRM) of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) Dr Moslehuddin Chowdhury Khaled, Instructor of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute Swarup Karmakar Niloy, Principal (in-charge) of hittagong Mohila Technical Training Center (CMTTC) Ashrifa Tanzim, among others.
