TRENDING: Social media reacts to RAB CCTV footage

The social media has been abuzz since Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday released new footage of Gulshan terror attack showing four alleged suspects roaming in front of the Holey Artisan Bakery right before the gruesome assault of July 1. The elite force sought help from people to identify the suspects and locate them. In no time, people went into a frenzy sharing the footage. Within three hours, the footage was viewed more than 75,000 times on Facebook. This translates people’s eagerness to help law enforcers combat terrorism. However, many people have expressed sheer disappointment with the poor quality of the footage which hardly gives any facial details of the suspects. They were doubtful whether it would lead to any successful arrest.
In one of his posts on Facebook, eminent writer and columnist Anisul Hoque wrote: “What is the point of using CCTV cameras, if faces in the footage remain unrecognisable? My curious mind wants to know.”
In another post, he wrote: “Why are there digital number plates for cars, if machines cannot read them automatically? My curious mind asks.”
Many Facebook users asked RAB to provide blown up photos and clearer footage so that people can identify the suspects. “How will people be able to identify [the suspects] when you [RAB] yourself cannot,” asked one user.
Some users even came up with suggestions. They asked the elite force to check the calls made to or received from that area, as the suspects are seen talking on their mobile phones in the footage. Recovering the license plate number of the car seen dropping off one of the suspects was also a concern of the users.
