A Bangladeshi team comprised of three students from Mastermind School have been awarded with the Diploma of Excellence for their project in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition.
The Diploma of Excellence is awarded to the team with the second best project in the competition, according to a press release from WaterAid.
The students are Aniruddah Chowdhury, Arnab Chakraborty, and Rituraj Das Gupta.
The second-prize winning project focused on the challenges caused by contaminants in industrial wastewater. Furthermore, as a potential solution to the problem, the students suggested the reinvention of photocatalysis with the use of titemium dioxide in industrial grey water treatment.
“By innovative use of existing technology, they showed new possibilities to cost effectively and efficiently treat harmful waste water from textile industry,” the Jury of the competition said as quoted in the press release.
The initiative to develop the project has been supported by non-profit organisation the House of Volunteers, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and WaterAid Bangladesh.
