The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a simultaneous waste removal operation across all 75 wards to clear sacrificial animal waste following Eid-ul-Azha.

On Saturday afternoon, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, visited the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) adjacent to Kalabagan Shishu Park to inspect the prompt waste removal efforts.

Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi and DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia were also present during the visit.

While inspecting the operation, the adviser said that the removal of sacrificial animal waste poses a significant challenge in urban areas.

Delays in waste disposal may lead to foul odours and the spread of harmful pathogens.

Expressing optimism, he said DSCC is expected to complete the waste removal within 12 hours, ensuring that the festivities of Eid remain uninterrupted for city dwellers.

More than 10,000 personnel from DSCC have been deployed in the field for the clean-up drive.

A total of 2,079 vehicles, including 207 dump trucks, 44 compactors, 39 container carriers and 16 pay loaders, have been engaged in the operation.

To ensure smooth coordination, a control room has been established at DSCC’s Emergency Operations Centre, where round-the-clock monitoring of the waste removal activities is being conducted.
