Police have reported a mob attack on two Iranian nationals and another individual in Dhaka's Bashundhara Residential Area.

The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon, with the police later rescuing the two foreign nationals. They were admitted to a hospital.

According to the police, the injured Iranian citizens are Mohammad Ahmad, 74, and his grandson Md Mehdi, 18, who were visiting Bangladesh.

The third injured individual, who had brought the Iranians in his vehicle, remains unidentified.

He reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

Vatara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam told Prothom Alo that the two Iranians had gone to a local currency exchange office to convert foreign currency into Bangladeshi taka.

“A dispute arose between them and some individuals at the establishment over the exchange. As a result, a mob was formed, accusing the Iranians of being robbers. The police intervened after receiving a 999 emergency call and rescued them.”
