After two months and 27 days, the Mirpur-10 metro rail station is set to reopen on Tuesday.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd, which operates the Dhaka metro rail, made the announcement at a press briefing on Monday.
Notably, on July 18, during a “complete shutdown” program called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a police box located at the Mirpur-10 roundabout was set on fire.
The black smoke from the fire spread to the metro rail.
For public safety, operations were suspended that day at around 5:30pm.
The next day, a Friday and a weekly holiday, the metro rail remained closed. In the afternoon, the Kazipara and Mirpur-10 metro stations were vandalized. Both stations suffered significant damage and had to be closed for repairs.
Although the erstwhile Awami League government had estimated it would take a year to repair these two metro stations, the current interim government took the initiative to reopen them within three months.
Among these, the Kazipara station was reopened on September 20.
