Update : 10 Aug 2024, 09:47 PM

The Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation (BHRF), a human rights organization, has issued an urgent directive to its branches and members to investigate and report on recent violent incidents targeting minority communities.

In a notification released by Shantanu Chowdhury, the BHRF expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in attacks that began on August 5, 2024, following the government's downfall amid the anti-discrimination student movement.

These incidents reportedly include arson, assault, torture, injuries, fatalities, and the looting of homes and properties belonging to minority groups in various regions across the country.

The BHRF has instructed all branches to conduct on-site fact-finding missions to gather detailed information about these incidents.

The organization emphasized the importance of compiling comprehensive investigative reports, complete with documentary evidence and witness testimonies.

These reports are to be submitted to the organization’s Chairperson, Advocate Alena Khan, or the Secretary General, Advocate Zia Habib Ahasan, no later than Tuesday.

BHRF Secretary General Advocate Zia Habib Ahasan stated that instructions have been issued to all branches of the BHRF.

However, no formal complaints have been received so far.

Should any complaints be filed, the organization will promptly conduct thorough investigations and provide appropriate legal assistance based on the findings.

The BHRF also assured that the identities of all individuals who come forward with information will be kept strictly confidential.
