A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the authorities concerned to seize the immovable properties of Mohammed Enamul Hoque, commissioner of Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, in a case lodged over amassing illegal wealth.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea of investigation officer Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Farzana Yasmin.

Confirming the matter to BSS, ACC counsel Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said the anti-graft body filed the case against Enamul for amassing an illegal wealth amounting to Tk9.76 crore.

The ACC during its probe learned that the accused was trying to sell or hand over the properties bought with money earned through corruption.

If the accused manages to sell off his properties, "our goal of seizing the properties under the state would be hampered," the ACC counsel added.
