Dr Matiur Rahman, a National Board of Revenue (NBR) member, is getting entangled due to his son Mushfiqur Rahman Iffat's goat scandal.

It has been revealed that in Feni, Matiur has built a luxurious duplex house at his in-laws' place.

In addition, numerous properties are in the name of Matiur, his son, and his second wife, Shammi Akhtar Shibu.

Iffat's two uncles and several close relatives confirmed this during a visit to Matiur Rahman's in-laws' house in Feni on Saturday afternoon.

Wishing anonymity, a former union parishad chairman said that Matiur's wife Shammi Akhtar's cousin, Md Arifur Rahman, helped purchase these properties.

UP chairman disclosed that ten years ago, Matiur Rahman gifted a luxurious duplex house to his mother-in-law to fulfill the wishes of his son Iffat and wife Shammi Akhtar Shibu. Additionally, Matiur has purchased numerous immovable properties in the district town and Sonagazi Upazila in the name of his son, wife, and brother-in-law Nakib.

The luxurious house in Feni, built by Matiur, is being looked after by a local man named Jasim Uddin. He has been residing there and maintaining the house for the past 10-12 years.

Jasim Uddin said: “Two months ago, NBR official Matiur Rahman, his wife Shammi Akhtar Shibu, their son Mushfiqur Rahman Iffat, and his mother-in-law visited the house. After staying for a couple of days, they returned to Dhaka. Matiur Rahman's mother-in-law currently stays at her daughters' house in Dhaka and occasionally visits the house.”

The locals, seeking anonymity, said that last year during Eid-ul-Adha, Iffat spent Tk1 crore to buy 12 cows and two goats. Out of these, he sacrificed eight cows and two goats in Dhaka. The remaining four cows were slaughtered at his maternal grandparent's house and distributed among relatives and the poor.

Md Arifur Rahman, Shammi Akhtar's cousin, said that NBR official Matiur Rahman is his cousin's husband, and Mushfiqur Rahman Iffat is their only child. Shammi married Matiur 25 years ago.

A year after their marriage, Shammi's father, retired bank officer Millat Mia, passed away. At Shammi's request, Matiur brought his mother-in-law, sister-in-law Lovely Akhtar, and brother-in-law Md Nakib to Dhaka. He arranged for Lovely's marriage after her studies and kept Nakib at home for his education. Recently, Nakib completed his studies in fashion design in China, returned to the country, and started a business and job. Currently, they reside in their own house in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, he added.

In addition to Feni, there is also local discussion about the enormous wealth of Dr Matiur's first wife, Laila Kaniz Laki, in various locations, including Raipur in Narsingdi and Gazipur.

Mushfiqur Rahman Iffat became a topic of controversy due to his intention to buy a goat worth Tk15 lakh for Eid-ul-Azha, sparking discussions and criticisms on social media about him and his father, Dr Matiur Rahman, a NRB official.

However, facing controversy on Facebook, he did not bring the goat purchased at home from Sadeeq Agro.

Despite Matiur denying any relationship with Iffat, MP Nizam Hazari revealed that Matiur is indeed Iffat's father.

Iffat invested in cows worth Tk70 lakh from various farms and markets in Dhaka this year.

Last year, he spent Tk60 lakh on sacrificial animals. The goat, bought for Tk15 lakh and not brought home despite an advance, kept Iffat in the news. He also enjoys keeping birds, owning a bird worth Tk2.5 lakh, and various exotic species from Egypt and Australia.
