Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam has said the voter turnout in the first four hours of the third phase of upazila elections was below 20%.
He gave this information at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon on Wednesday.
Jahangir Alam said due to network disruptions caused by Cyclone Remal, no information has been accessible on the app since the morning. As a result, data was collected manually in the field.
He said: “According to manually collected data so far, the average voter turnout is below 20%."
In the first phase of the upazila parishad elections on May 8, 36% voter turnout was followed by 38% voter turnout in the second phase on May 21.
Voters are casting votes to choose new representatives in 87 upazilas in the third phase of upazila parishad elections on Wednesday.
Election officials said that the polling started at the appointed time at 8am on Wednesday in 7,500 centres of these upazilas, which will continue till 4pm.
