Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Monday blamed opportunistic traders for the surge in green chillies prices

“Opportunistic traders took advantage of transportation issues during Eid and heavy rainfall, further exacerbating the price hike,” he made the remarks during a conversation with journalists on Monday afternoon.

The minister emphasized that he has already allowed the import of green chillies, and shipments have commenced.

He assured that the prices are expected to stabilize and decrease within the next two to four days.

The minister's remarks shed light on the factors contributing to the unprecedented rise in green chillies prices and highlighted the government's proactive measures to address the situation.

Mentioning the sudden price surge in onions, the minister said: “The price has come down since we started importing.”

He acknowledged the challenges associated with the rising prices of essential commodities and assured that efforts are being made to address the situation. As a result, the prices of many items have already started to decrease.

Regarding the increase in sugar prices, the minister highlighted the decline in domestic sugar production.

He mentioned that the demand for sugar in rural areas is relatively low and there is a significant demand in urban areas. Steps have been taken to address this issue as well.
