Another child has died with measles-like symptoms at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). The child, identified as Chan (2), died around 2:00 pm on Saturday at the hospital’s measles isolation ward.
The deceased hailed from Balidanga village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah. With this death, a total of 10 children died across Khulna division in the last 27 days due to measles-like symptoms. Of them, 2 deaths were reported in Khulna and 8 in Kushtia.
During the same period, 47 new patients were admitted to hospitals yesterday, while 62 children were admitted on Friday.
Professor Dr Syeda Rukhsana Parveen, Head of Pediatric Department at KMCH, said the child arrived in a critical condition, severely malnourished. “We started treatment with maximum effort, but the child died at 2:00 pm,” she said.
Earlier on Wednesday, another 10-month-old child named Shamim from Jhenaidah died in the measles isolation ward after being brought for advanced treatment.
