In addition to the reduction in soybean oil prices, Ghosh also mentioned that the price of palm oil has seen a cut of Tk2, now costing Tk133 per litre.

The commerce secretary said the government will to further reduce the prices of the edible oil before Eid.

"The price of onion has decreased. Onion is being imported considering the interests of farmers. Approval was given to import 500,000 tons of onion, and so far 15,000 tons have arrived in the country.

Pointing out that the price of ginger has increased in the market as its imports from China are suspended, he said it will be brought from Myanmar, which will hopefully bring down its price before the Muslim festival.
