Habibul, Minhajul to stay on as selectors

Update : 28 Jun 2015, 07:37 PM

Members of the three-man national selection panel Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar are likely to continue their job although their contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board expires tomorrow.

Sources revealed that the two former Bangladesh captains will receive an extension to their contract that will see them continue with their roles till this December. Provided the extension do take place, it will be the third such instance. In June 2014, Minhajul and Habibul saw their tenure with the BCB stretched to September before being asked to continue their role till June 30, 2015.

The current selection panel is led by Faruk Ahmed who took the chair of the national chief selector in December 2013 after Akram Khan resigned from the post in order to contest the BCB polls. Faruk’s tenure will expire on December 30 this year.

The trio – Faruk, Habibul and Minhajul – so far has been successful in doing their job in the last one year and the BCB is reluctant to break the combination.

The selection panel’s immediate assignment is to name the Bangladesh squads for the two Twenty20 internationals, three one-dayers and two Tests against South Africa. The month-long home series will kick off this Sunday through the first T20I at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
