India escape one-day whitewash

Update : 24 Jun 2015, 01:25 PM

India have managed to avoid a 3-0 one-day international series whitewash with a 77-run win over Bangladesh.

India won the last match against Bangladesh at Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur on Wednesday.

Bangladesh have sealed the series by two consecutive victory in the three-match series.

Indian cricketers seemed relived after sending furious Sabbir to the pavilion at 32 over. In the fifth wicket stand, he scored 43 runs off 38 balls hitting six ground breaking boundaries.

Nasir Hossain, the last beacon of hope for Bangladesh was bagged by an Ashwin delivery. He scored 32 facing 30 balls hitting three boundaries.

Earlier, a 50-run partnership in the third wicket stand by Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim set Bangladesh in a solid position.

A clever Raina delivery provoked Mushfiqur to hit a cut as he did this Dhoni grabbed the ball in his gloves.

Mushfiqur scored 24 off 30 balls hitting a maximum.

Soumya Sarker was sent backed to the pavilion after slower delivery by Kulkarni the ninth over.

The passionate left hand scored 40 runs of 34 balls hitting two highflying maximums and five whirlwind boundaries.

Opener Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarker began chasing the India's 318 in the third and last ODI in the ongoing series at Sher -e- Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur.

Earlier, Bangladesh elected to field after winning the toss. India scored 317 losing 6 wickets to dodge the whitewash by Bangladesh.

Three days ago, the Tigers clinched a bilateral series for the very first time against neighbors India.

Now the Tigers stand on the brink of yet another slice of history – the golden chance of registering a “Banglawash” over the world’s No 2 side – when the sub-continent rivals face each other in the third and final ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

However, given the Tigers’ authoritative displays in the first two ODIs, it will not be a surprise if the tourists are unable to prevent a series sweep.

Mustafizur Rahman, the young left-arm of Bangladesh has not only created history by bagging two five-wicket hauls in as many ODIs but has also dented the confidence of the much-vaunted Indian batting line-up.
