Pakistan’s Interim Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, visited Jaranwala on Monday to stand in solidarity with the Christian community and distribute compensation cheques among families affected by recent violent mobs. These mobs had allegedly destroyed houses and churches based on blasphemy allegations.

According to estimates by Faisalabad’s district administration, the violent incidents resulted in damages of approximately Rs 29.1 million to 22 churches and around Rs 38.5 million to 91 houses. The administration submitted this assessment to the provincial government, noting the destruction of various items such as fans, air-conditioners, generators, furniture, and electrical appliances.

During his speech in Jaranwala, Kakar emphasized that it is the government's responsibility to safeguard the lives and properties of religious minorities. Stressing the importance of interfaith unity, he asserted that any injustices against minorities would be met with consequences from the state. Kakar further highlighted that extremism has no association with religion, language, or region.

Acknowledging the significant role of the Christian community in Pakistan's creation, Kakar distributed compensation cheques worth Rs 2 million each to community members affected by the violence. Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, also attended the event, assuring that authorities are using CCTV footage and geo-fencing to identify suspects. Naqvi pledged that damaged churches would be restored and returned to their respective administrations swiftly.

Furthermore, Naqvi announced financial assistance for every victim and conveyed the government's unwavering commitment to supporting the community. He reaffirmed the government's dedication to meaningful engagement, promising substantial efforts for a just resolution for the affected Christian community.

The incident in Jaranwala underscores the significance of ensuring tolerance, unity, and justice in a diverse society. The interim government's response aims to alleviate the impact of the violence, restore trust, and reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to protecting the rights of all its citizens.
