A woman in India has admitted to urinating in her in-laws’ tea every day for over a year.
Rekha Nagvanshi, 30, was caught by her mother-in-law while squatting on the teapot, urinating into it, at her home in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, according to media reports published on Saturday.
Rekha, who had an arranged marriage with Deepak, was fed up with her in-laws and had earlier walked out of the marriage. Her husband then convinced her to return for the sake of their four-year-old son.
She reportedly returned on the condition that her husband would massage her feet, cook and clean – an arrangement he was fine with but not his parents, The Huffington Post read.
Soon after she moved back in, her in-laws Suraj, 60, and Ajith, 55, tried to stop her husband from following her conditions.
Rekha was angry that her in-laws had also stopped her husband from helping her with household chores.
“Rekha is strong-minded and likes to be independent, and the thought of being dictated to by his parents was just too much for her,” Rekha’s friend Alia Kohli told the Daily Mail. “So I guess that's when she decided to start doing what she did, and urinating in their tea.”
Her in-laws are angry and disgusted.
“You cannot urinate into someone’s tea for a year and get away with it,” Suraj said. “We want justice.”
In a country where women’s rights and oppression of women are currently at the forefront of all debates, it is yet to be seen whether she will be supported by the public or condemned for it.
