Indian police kill 21 Maoists in Odisha

Greyhound commandos of the Andhra Pradesh police attacked a Maoist camp deep in the forests, where at least 50-60 Maoists was gathered for a meeting, an official said, reports NDTV. AP Director General of Police, Nanduri Sambasiva Rao who left for Visakhapatnam immediately upon receiving news of the encounter, confirmed the Naxal casualties to PTI. Police say they were tipped off about a meeting of top Maoists officials in the area. Search and combing operations are on since late last night. Ammunition and weapons including three AK-47 and self-loading rifles were seized during the drive. Police suspected that senior Maoist’s leader could be among the dead. Two police personnel also injured during the drive. The police official said that combing operation was still continuing as there was information that there were some more Maoists roaming in the region. Malkangiri is among the districts controlled by Maoists in India.
