Tapas Pal, popular Bengali actor and a Member of Parliament from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, has apologised for his comment about killing opposition workers and having women raped.
He made the apology saying it was a "gross error of judgement"on Wednesday, reports BBC.
The MP said he had "no excuses to offer" for his remarks.
Tapas Pal made the controversial comments warning the rival Communist party while addressing his party supporters.
Opposition parties and the National Commission for Women have also condemned his comments.
In a footage aired by local TV channels on Monday, Tapas was clearly heard assuring party workers that members of other parties will not be allowed to harm them.
Mr Pal's statement has led to widespread outrage in India and TMC, which is the ruling party in the eastern state of West Bengal, has distanced itself from his comments.
