The Hindustan times has reported that BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and Balbir Punj today met a sulking LK Advani to discuss the elevation of Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidate, a move the party patriarch is opposed to.
Irked over Modi being made the prime ministerial candidate, Advani had written a scathing letter to BJP president Rajnath Singh expressing disappointment over his style of functioning.
Sources said the issue was discussed by Swaraj, Kumar and Punj with Advani who is still unhappy with the decision on Modi.
However, when Swaraj was asked about Advani's stand after the meeting, she said, "Nobody is upset."
She denied that Advani's letter to Singh was discussed.
Soon after the parliamentary board anointed him as the prime ministerial candidate, Modi had visited Advani and spent around 30 minutes with him. This was after Advani had written to Singh.
Interestingly, though Advani wrote the letter in the wake of Modi's elevation as PM candidate, he attacked Rajnath Singh and chose not to mention the Gujarat chief minister.
On the other hand, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Saturday took potshots at BJP over announcing Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, saying the party has succumbed to threats from the RSS and wondered if the Sangh could still call itself a "cultural organisation".
"BJP succumbs to threats of RSS and Ramdev and declare Modi as BJP's PM candidate. Do we still call RSS as a Cultural Organisation?" Singh said on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Modi was on Friday anointed as the PM candidate by the BJP after a go-ahead from the RSS. It ignored the opposition from party patriarch LK Advani to Modi's elevation.
Another Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad saw a larger conspiracy by BJP President Rajnath Singh in Modi's elevation.
He wondered if the move is an attempt to sideline Advani and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, both of whom were contenders for the PM post till Friday.
"Is Rajnath Ji with the help of RSS using Modi Ji to sideline Advani Ji & Sushma Ji for his own chance, when Modi Ji will be rejected in 2014?" Ahmad said on Twitter.
