Indian security forces have detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals in two separate incidents in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for allegedly staying in the country illegally.

On Tuesday, local police and Rapid Action Force personnel took in six Bangladeshis at a bus stand in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, The Hindu reported.

They were identified as Tanvir, 39, Rashib Gaboon, 43, Mohammed Aslam, 41, Mohammed Al Islam, 37, Mohammed Ruhul Amin, 30, and Shovon Sheikh, 38. All of them are residents of Narayanganj district in Bangladesh, according to local police.

Originally, they were seeking employment at a knitwear factory in Mudhalipalayam, but they were rejected. They were later found at the bus stand trying to seek work at a private company in Palladam.

In a separate incident on Sunday, local police in Palghar district, Maharashtra, held five more Bangladeshi nationals during a raid in a slum, Times of India reports.

Acting on a tip-off, the police’s anti-human trafficking cell (AHTC) raided a slum in Nalla Sopara and held the five men, inspector Saurabhi Pawar said.

The accused, Arshad Rahamatullah Gazi, 52, Ali Mohammad Dinmohammad Mandal, 56, Miraj Saheb Mandal, 19, Sajad Kadir Mandal, 45, and Saheb Panchanan Sardar, 45, allegedly did not possess any valid documents for entry into India, she said.

The official said the men had allegedly entered the country by the river route ten years ago and worked as labourers.

The police on Monday registered a case under provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
