Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has questioned the government on the possible involvement of foreign actors in the recent unrest in Bangladesh, which led to the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister.
Gandhi raised his concerns during an all-party meeting on Tuesday, convened by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who briefed leaders on the escalating situation, reports The Times of India.
The government in response said all possible angles were being investigated.
Gandhi also sought clarity on India's long-term and short-term strategies regarding the crisis, to which the government responded that the situation was evolving and would be continuously analyzed.
Jaishankar expressed hope for unanimous support across party lines, informing the leaders that the government was in contact with the Bangladesh Army.
The meeting also included Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC President KC Venugopal.
Additionally, Central government representatives, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, were present.
Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister on Monday afternoon in the face of nationwide protests, before fleeing the country.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman later in the day addressed the nation announcing that an interim government would soon be formed.
Hasina reached India on Monday evening and, according to media reports, was expected to continue her journey to London.
