All 117 assembly seats in the Indian state of Punjab and 59 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will go to polls on Sunday.
Voting in both states will begin at 7am and go on till 6pm, according to media reports.
The polls campaign ended on Friday as candidates and senior leaders of all parties that joined the polls race made their last-ditch efforts to woo voters.
According to the data shared by the Election Commission of India, Punjab has 2,14,99,804 eligible voters who will be deciding the fate of 1304 candidates across 23 districts.
While the Congress is hoping to return to power under Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who has been fielded from two seats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with Bhagwant Mann as CM-face is the other strong contender to claim Punjab if opinion polls are to be considered.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting 65 seats along with Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).
In Uttar Pradesh, polling is being held in seven phases, with the 59 seats falling under the third one. The assembly seats across 16 districts have as many as 627 candidates in the fray in the phase, in which over 2.15 crore people are eligible to vote.
The districts where polling will be held are Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhanshi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba.
The Karhal Assembly seat, from where Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting, will also go to the polls in this phase on Sunday. The BJP has fielded Union minister S P Singh Baghel from the seat.
The most populous state of India saw a voting turnout of 60.51% in the first phase election on February 10 and the figure jumped to over 64.4% in the second phase of polling on February 14.
Counting of votes in both states will take place on March 10.
Mentionable, the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Punjab, and Uttarakhand started to vote over seven phases starting February 10.
Despite four other states going to the polls, Uttar Pradesh carries far more significance with analyses showing that the party that wins the state ends up ruling the country. BJP-backed Hindu hardliner Yogi Adityanath is seeking re-election there.
The polls result will be closely watched for clues ahead of parliamentary elections in 2024, reports Reuters.
